Specification of joint characteristics (Input Table)
Data description/conditions:
JOINTREF:
Reference name from input table PIPES
Unique name in list
Type of joint (1)
Prescribed names: Socket-L, Socket-S, Spigot-L, Spigot-S, Sleeve-L, Sleeve-S, Ball, Hinge or Tight (see below for the schematics).
(Socket-L: socket-spigot connection, socket at start of joint element without stop
Socket-S: socket-spigot connection, socket at start of joint element with stop
Spigot-L: socket-spigot connection, spigot at start of joint element without stop
Spigot-S: socket-spigot connection, spigot at start of joint element with stop
Sleeve-L: double socketed coupling sleeve without stop
Sleeve-S: double socketed coupling sleeve with stop
Ball: ball hinge free rotations in all directions
Hinge: pin hinge free rotation around one axis, the pin axis
Tight: connection with resistance to tensile strain, no free translations and rotations
Start of joint element is the lower node number.)
x-C:
Clearance in axial socket direction in case of compression
≥ 0. / Undefined (1)
x-T:
Clearance in axial socket direction in case of tension
≥ 0. / Undefined (1)
Maximum allowable joint rotation as specified by the supplier
≥ 0. and < 180. / > 0. and < 180. / Undefined (2)
Angle between the plane of rotation and the horizontal plane
≥ 0. and < 360. / Undefined (3)
OVALtype:
Indication of ring stiffness of joint construction
Prescribed names: Stiff (no ovalisation possible), Normal (stiffness of continuous pipe), Free (stiffness of free pipe end)
(If Undefined (empty), the Free condition is applied.)
Undefined for TYPE = Ball, Hinge or Tight (see also pipeline joints for more information about the various types of joint).

(n-1), n, (n+1) and (n+2) are the node numbers of the pipe elements.
The node numbers n and (n+1) have the same coordinates, and therefore, the (joint) element between these numbers has zero length.
> 0. for TYPE = Ball and Hinge; Undefined for TYPE = Tight.
The input value MaxRot assigned here is the maximum angle of rotation given by the pipe manufacturer. Please note, MaxRot is not the initial joint angle but the angle between the straight pipe and the kinked pipe.

The resulting MaxRot in output table J-SDATA may be less than the assigned value here (see limitation of the maximum rotation).
Value required if TYPE = Hinge, else Undefined.
